Every soul of the party, the saxophone is a staple of the jazz, funk, blues, and soul genres. Bringing its unique flavour either as a solo instrument, or as part of an ensemble, the many varieties of saxophone - and their ability to traverse multiple genres - make it extremely versatile.

There are a few basics to making your event a success with a saxophonist.

3. Repertoire
4. Booking

Saxophone like singers are categorised in four basic types; Soprano, Alto, Tenor & Baritone. The Alto & Tenor are by far the most popular of these, and account for the majority of solo saxophone repertoire.

Saxophonists are capable of playing almost anything, ranging from classical, to pop, to house, to jazz, to R & B, blues, funk, reggae, ska, soul and Motown.

Typically, the best times are afternoon, or evening when your guests are beginning to relax, or just about ready to dance! Also saxophonist are excellent at providing smooth background music for a cocktail reception or, alternatively, bringing their magic to the dance floor.

For one saxophonists, about 2 x 2 metres will do just fine - saxophonists usually stand when they play, so they can fit in tight spaces (within reason!). For a group of 4 with full band setup 8x8 will cover it.

Please ensure you provide for a PA System to allow them to play for 20-30 minutes and 15 minute breaks in-between. Playing outside, first agree with the saxophonist about the shelter.
